Demonstrations and protest marches for and against Hasnat Abdullah at Devidwar
A protest march was held in Comilla’s Devidwar for and against Hasnat Abdullah, the main organizer of the southern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), following his comments on BNP politics. On Tuesday afternoon, BNP leaders and activists staged a protest march in favor of Hasnat at the upazila headquarters under the banner of ‘July coup victims, families and students’.
In a speech given at the ‘July rally’ organized at the District Shilpakala Academy on May 16, Hasnat Abdullah commented that ‘BNP politics also runs on Awami League money’. After that, BNP leaders and activists staged a march in protest against his ‘disrespectful’ remarks involving BNP. Under the banner of Debidwar Upazila BNP, former joint general secretary of Comilla North District BNP, Rizviul Ahsan Munshi, and supporters of former MP Manjurul Ahsan Munshi from Comilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency held the protest march and rally.
In addition, on Monday afternoon, the Comilla Divisional (Organizational) BNP gave Hasnat Abdullah a seven-day deadline to withdraw his statement by holding a press conference at the Comilla Press Club. At the same time, he was called upon to apologize unconditionally. It was also warned that if Hasnat Abdullah did not withdraw his statement, he would have no place on the streets of Comilla. A protest march in Debidwar today was held in support of Hasnat.
A protest march in support of Hasnat started from the premises of Debidwar Reaz Uddin Government Pilot High School at around 4 pm today. The procession circled the Comilla-Sylhet regional highway and the main roads of the upazila headquarters. At that time, the protesters raised slogans like ‘If anything happens to Hasnat Bhai, fire will burn in every house’, ‘The blood of the martyrs of the July Uprising, we will not let it go in vain’, ‘The land of Devidwar, Hasnat Bhai’s base’ etc. Later, the program ended with a short rally at New Market Independence Square.
